A 14-year-old youth was found dead only a few days after being wrongly blamed of taking the ashes of a dead baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father discovered his body in his room at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Accusations Begin

The investigation heard how his parent got a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The communication stated: "Inform him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a statement presented to the proceedings, the mother said the woman had been in the media, claiming her baby's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.

Police Inquiry

An official inquiry from police later concluded the alleged break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that said property was never stolen in the beginning".

Media reports about the supposed stolen remains attracted online responses, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his mother said individuals "understood it was him".

The "online posts were really distressing", she said.

Mental Health Impact

She added that her son had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views genuinely mattered to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

Kai was detained at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later freed pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not contacted the relatives by the moment of his death.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like much longer".

When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child informed her he had entered the house because the woman who resided there had said he could use the toilet whenever he needed, but denied removing anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being bullied digitally after the accusations.

The inquest learned that one 19-year-old encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the night before he passed away, describing how she had heard him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "relatives is totally devastated".

He had been "clearly concealing his worries", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The hearing heard from school personnel at the local High School.

On November 8th, she "heard some students discussing that the student had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she called Kai's parents' landline and provided a message saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.

The court learned his parents said they never got that communication.

Official Conclusion

Senior coroner informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.

Providing a narrative finding, he said: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Likely untruths were afterwards exaggerated and amplified through the medium of social media.

"On November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and after his interview he was freed whilst investigations continued."

The official determined: "Exists no evidence that the acts or omissions of any organization caused or contributed to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is not possible to determine his intent."
