This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a challenge for partners in committed relationships who are fans of horror films: Get comfortable with your partner and view Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it might appear like conventional body horror, but beneath Together resides a intense examination about our choices in loving our partners.

A Debut Feature Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together is the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for over ten years. Married in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a unique chemistry to their roles, expertly portraying both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The story starts when Tim and Millie move from the big city to the rural area for Millie’s job. A familiar plot device, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the tropes conclude. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their new home, a tempest descends, and the protagonists fall into an underground cave. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a mysterious influence begins influencing the pair. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The complete narrative is a slow burn of scares, blending bits of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes during something grotesque). The director weaves these elements together seamlessly and presents them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Millie’s confidence and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his floundering music career inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and far away from his social circle. He dreads the notion of completely losing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is intensified by the reality he can’t drive and relies on Millie for getting around.

Shanks’ smartest move in Together never makes Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie confront the type of challenges that arise in any relationship after ten years. Deep down, they continue to care for each other. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and are vulnerable at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to a partner, the symbolism does not come across as hamfisted or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. Conversely, some couples having disagreements found that the film actually helped them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could act as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale plant feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply look at your other half and utter, “We could get through that together”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can embark on right now.

Together is available to watch on Hulu as of this moment.
