Patriots Match Best Victory Run From Brady Era with Triumph Against Jets
First-year player Henderson has tallied five TDs this season
The New England Patriots equaled their longest winning run since the Brady era as they beat AFC East rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the New England squad claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since star signal-caller Tom Brady's final season with the franchise in 2019
QB Maye passed for 281 yards and a TD, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
The triumph increases the Patriots advantage at the summit of the division as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York at the foot after slipping to two victories and eight defeats
The opposing team had scored first at Foxborough with quarterback Fields running in a short rushing score to cap the New York's initial series
But the home team responded in the second period as the rookie ran in two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Maye at the rear of the endzone halfway into the third quarter to push the score to 21-7
"That was a key occasion for him delivering, and it's been fantastic for him to keep earning playing time," Maye commented on the rookie. "He desires to be excellent."
Fields found Metchie in the latter part of the third period to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Borregales kicked a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the Patriots sealed the win
