Diving into a Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have discovered numerous interesting independent titles. But, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer lets you play a character that is truly a piece of poop attempting to make its way to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is simple: just use a jump control. Across numerous stages, you'll face tough enemies and access a store to purchase customizations for your dung hero.

Time your jumps precisely, as a wrong move means beginning again. Leap using air pockets to launch yourself upward, navigate fragile ledges, and interact with buttons to open new areas. Gather coins and use them on tougher game content in which the action intensifies.

Visually, the game shows off eye-catching stages and catchy background music. Its minimalist art featuring morphing geometric shapes evokes memories of gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although tough to think of previous releases where you control a dung character, video games frequently incorporated scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, fecal references shows up extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive accolades, like being named best at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is ready currently on Steam, with the full game set to debut on PC this November.
