Alphabet Plans Investment of $15bn to Build AI Data Hub in India

Data Hub Facility
The Nation stands as a prime location for data centres due to its affordable data rates and swiftly increasing internet user base.

The parent firm of Google Alphabet will invest $15 billion for constructing an AI computing facility in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

The facility, which will be set up in the harbor town of Visakhapatnam, is going to be a component of Google's international system of artificial intelligence hubs located in twelve different countries.

"This represents the biggest artificial intelligence center that we are going to be investing in across the globe, excluding the United States of America," Thomas Kurien announced at an gathering in capital Delhi this Tuesday, mentioning that the financial commitment is to be distributed across the coming five years.

The revelation arrives during a period President Trump of the United States has been asking US firms to prioritise investments within the country.

The Expanding Position of India in Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure

The nation has become a major hub for AI data centers. India's affordable data pricing and rapidly growing online population have made it a center for expansion of cloud and artificial intelligence for major tech firms.

"This center will introduce our pioneering tech solutions to businesses and consumers in India, enhancing AI development and promoting progress nationwide," said Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.

Project Details

An official contract to complete the project is set to be signed this Tuesday, the Andhra Pradesh government confirmed.

"It constitutes a massive leap for the digital progression of our state, technological innovation, and worldwide position," said the state's technology minister Nara Lokesh, the technology minister.

The project will merge computing and artificial intelligence facilities with renewable energy systems and an broader fiber-optic system.

Andhra Pradesh's Data Center Vision

The venture forms part of the local administration's plan to create 6GW of data center capability by 2029.

Computing facilities are actual buildings that accommodate the computing and networking equipment that organizations use to gather, analyze, save, and share information.

They feature computer servers, data storage systems and networking hardware like firewalls and routers, combined with the necessary power and cooling systems to operate them.

Funding Benefits

In Andhra Pradesh, the state authorities has been granting subsidised land and power to draw global investors.

Sector Expansion

India's data centre industry has grown rapidly over the past five years, surpassing the 1GW capacity mark in 2024 and nearly tripling its capability from 2019.
